In the box

What we get in the box is a warranty card, a user manual, a usb type A to type C cable for charging, two extra sets of rubber buds (in different sizes), which are soft and creates a good seal in the ears.

The case

It has a simple design with round edges, but it looks good in the semi-matte black colour. The build quality also seems good.

On the front are 4 led lights for checking the remaining battery capacity of the case.
The connector for charging is on the back. However, since the case has a built-in cable, we don’t really need it.

We also get a strap that can be used for hanging the case in something. Maybe on a belt or backpack.

In the picture below, you can see the built-in charging cable I mentioned earlier. It’s tucked into its own area, and sits nicely in place, so it’s not going to fall out by itself.

Inside is a 350 mAh battery, that gives us up to 24 hours of use at 50% volume, including the battery in the earphones. Which means it can recharge the earphones about 2 and a half times, and charging the case from empty to full takes about 2 hours.

While the earphones are charging, the red light around the touch sensitive area will be lit up.

The lights on the front of the case, will show the charge progress for the case itself. However, there’s no easy way to check the remaining capacity. To check it, we must open the lid, and lift one of the earphones. This will turn the lights on, and we can now see the remaining capacity. I wish there was a button on the outside of the case somewhere, to activate it. Or, just by opening the lid.

These lights will not show if the earphones are charging or not. To check it, we have to open the lid, and check if the red lights are on.

The earphones – Tronsmart Spunky Beat

These earphones are very small, weighing only 3.7 grams, and inside is a 35 mAh battery. They have a drop shape, with the ear tunnels placed on an angle. So they fit nicely in the ears.
The buttons here look a bit like push buttons, but they’re not. This is the touch sensitive area, and tapping or holding with a finger is enough for it to react.
The back of the earphones have a semi-matt finish, while the front is glossy, which makes them a bit slippery to hold, but I think it looks good.

The Tronsmart Spunky Beat are very small, so they fit very nicely in the ears. They almost disappear in there, and I hardly notice wearing them at all. The comfort is very good, and the touch controls work well. The only time I experienced accidental touches, was when adjusting the earphones position, or taking them out. This happens because they are so small, and a bit difficult to hold without touching the buttons. But after wearing them for a while, I soon learned how to hold them without touching these areas.

They sit securely in the ears and never fell out, which makes them good for sports.
Sweat and some water is no problem as well, as they are rated IPX5.

Battery life

Regarding battery life, they do last up to 7 hours if you play at 50% volume. But, at loud volume, around 85%, they lasted me about 4.5 hours. Which is quite good, when considering the size of them.

The result is a total of 15 hours including the case, if you play at loud volume.

If you suddenly find yourself with empty batteries in the earphones, you’ll be happy to know that charging them for only 5 minutes, will give you up to 1 hour of listening time.

Connectivity, controls and latency

The pairing process is the same as with most other earphones.
Just take them out of the case. Now the lights on one of them is switched off, and one of them are blinking red and blue, to show it’s in pairing mode.

Now just select it on the phone, and we’re done.

The next time we want to use the earphones, they will reconnect automatically when we take them out of the case, and they do so very quickly. The Bluetooth connection is perfectly stable, and I haven’t had a single dropout while testing them. The official range is up to 15 meters, but I tested them up to 20, and still didn’t lose the connection.

We can of course also control music with the touch areas, and we have the following commands:

  • Touch once to play or pause, which works on both earphones.
  • Hold the left one to go forward. Usually this is done on the right earphone, but here it’s the left one…
  • Hold the right earphone to go back or to the previous song.
  • Triple tap the right one to lower the volume, or the left one to raise it.
  • To open the assistant, tap two times on the left or right one.

To check if there’s any delay I used rubber bands to attach the earphones to my camera, so the sound you hear (in the latency test in this video) is directly from the earphones. There is a short delay, that will probably annoy some of you who enjoy fast gaming. However, for videos in YouTube or Netflix it’s not noticeable at all.

Sound and call quality

The microphone quality is quite good. Check out the sample in the video (video link).
They’re good for calls, as long as there’s not too much noise from the surroundings.

The sound quality is quite good, and sounds both spacious and clear. There’s no muffled sound and even at high volume there’s no noticeable muddiness or distortion. Vocals are very present and sound very good.
The balance between high and low is also nice, without experiencing any discomfort or fatiguing. Since the earphones are so small, the bass isn’t going to shake your head. It’s good enough, but lacking the low rumbles and powerful punches.

Overall I’m happy considering the size of these earphones, even though it’s a bit lacking on the bass, it still sounds good.

Regarding volume, I’m able to play at up to about 85% before it gets too loud, so it goes high enough.

Overall the sound from the Tronsmart Spunky Beat is good, and surprisingly spacious. They don’t fall out, even when shaking the head. The battery life is good, there’s IPX5, aptX, and more, so the only thing lacking is bit of extra bass.
