Haylou T15 Review

The content of the box is familiar from other Haylou products.
Inside is a user manul in English and Chinese language, a micro USB cable for charging, extra rubber buds in different sizes, the 2200 mAh charging case, and the earphones themselves.

The case

The case is made of plastic, and because of the big battery it’s got some weight to it.
Under the rubber lip on the front is the USB connector for charging other devices. So, yes, this case can also be used as a power bank for your phone or other devices. 2200 mAh isn’t a lot for charging a phone, but it’s enough for some emergency charging. If you don’t use it as a power bank, it can last up to 60 hours. So if you play 2 hours of music every day, it should last about a month, but only if you play at around 50% volume.

Charing this beast of a case takes about 3 hours, so it’s not bad at all.

On the side is the micro-usb for charging the case, and the only light we have on the outside is next to the cable. Since there’s no battery indicator on the outside, we have to open the lid to check the remaining battery.

When I first read the specifications of the case, and saw it’s got a 2200 mAh battery, I was sure the case would be quite big. But it’s actually not that bad. Compared with the GT1 Plus case in my right hand, they have the same thickness, but it’s a bit wider (1cm). From the side it’s about 1.3cm bigger. So overall the size is not bad. The thickness also makes it possible to put it in a pocket.

The earphones

The earphones do look a bit unusual, with the part sticking out in one corner. This is where the microphone is located, so it will go a little bit out of the ear and point down towards the mouth. This is good for phone calls, compared to just having a hole on the side of the earphone, as the sound will get picked up easier by the microphone. They also have DSP noise reduction to improve the quality. I did a microphone test, so check it out in the video. The sound quality coming from the mics are not bad at all. I’m actually positively surprised. So these are very usable for calls.

The earphones are made of plastic, and the rounded design doesn’t exactly make them look premium, but the build quality feels solid and good. The good thing about the design, is that it makes them sit very comfortably in the ears. The microphone part that sticks out from the ears notch, and the side of the earphones gets support from the sides of the ear itself, so they do not move while wearing them.

If you saw my reviews of the GT1, you may notice that the speaker stem on the Haylou T15 is quite a bit shorter, so they will not go as deep into the ears as the GT1. This also makes the T15 more comfortable in my opinion.

They’re also IPX5 waterproof, so there’s no need to worry about rain or sweat.

When it comes to the battery, one full charge is informed to last about 3.5 hours at 50% volume. I did my tests with loud volume at around 80% and I got about 3 hours per charge. It’s not fantastic, but I think it’s not bad at all for such small earphones.

Charging the earphones takes about 1.5 hours.

Sadly, there’s no way to see if the earphones are still charging from the outside of the case, so we have to open it to check it. If they’re still charging the two red lights will glow, and we can see the remaining battery of the case on the three LEDs in the middle. Each light is one third of the capacity, and when it’s low the last light will start blinking.

Connectivity, controls and latency

The Haylou T15 got touch controls, and they’re quite sensitive, which is both good and bad.
We can tap once, on the left or right one to play or pause.
Tap twice on the right one to switch to the next song.
Tap twice on the left one to go back, or to the previous song.
Tap three times to open the assistant.

The bad thing about the touch controls, is that it’s quite difficult to adjust the earphones position, or just putting them in or out of the ear, without touching the controls. I did somehow learn how not to hold them, but I still get some accidental touches.

We can of course also control phone calls by double tapping to answer and hang up a call, or hold for 1 second to reject a call.

We also have a gaming mode, that is activated by triple tapping the right earphone. Check out the video to see (and hear) how they perform.

As expected there is a short delay, but it’s good enough for gaming. Although I think the T5 model from QCY have even lower latency, so I think they may be a little bit better for games.

Comfort and Sound quality of the Haylou T15

Wearing these earphones is a pleasure. They’re very light, at only 3.7 grams each, and sit very comfortably in the ears. I can hardly feel them at all. They don’t go as deep inside the ears compared to other models like the GT1 series, but because of the different way they sit in the ears, they still sit very securely, and in my opinion more comfortable than the GT1 series. I’ve been using these for about two weeks now, and they never fell out.

When it comes to sound quality, they are quite good. They have good highs that don’t go too high or sound bad in any way. The mids and vocals are present and sound clear. The lows are also good, and as usual Haylou delivers a good punchy and deep bass, with a nice rumble. I think these are better than the other Haylou models, when it comes to bass. So, the overall sound is well balanced and sounds nice and clear.

The volume goes high, and I can play at around 80% before it starts getting uncomfortable. When playing music with a lot of bass at very high volume, the sound can get a bit muddy. It still sounds good though, but the bass takes over, and makes it a little bit muddy.

They have BT5, and the connection has been perfect the whole time. Not even a single drop in the connection. Overall a nice product from Haylou. There’s no aptX, but they have AAC and good 6mm drivers, that produce nice sound and good bass. They can also be used in single mode if you want to, and you can choose which one is master and slave. And don’t forget the big 2200 mAh case. So I think the Haylou T15 is a good product for the price, and I’ve enjoyed using them for the past two weeks.
