Overall design

If you’re familiar with the original Vibe 3 (or the Garmin Phoenix 5X), the design will not surprise you, because it’s still the same case and bands as the Vibe 3. It looks exactly the same, but has a new gorgeous IPS screen and a HR-sensor.

Case/Bands

The case is matte black, made of carbon coated metal, and has stainless steel buttons. It’s also rated IP67 dust and waterproof, so that’s nice! On the back you’ll find the HR-sensor and the charging connector, which is magnetic. The magnet is strong enough to hold the cable in place, but if you move the watch around while charging, it may fall off.

It’s still a big rugged watch, but after wearing it for two weeks (day and night) i like the size of it. It’s not too big, and the design looks very good.

The screen is a 1.22 inch IPS Color display, and it looks gorgeous! the colors  are very nice and the brightness is good, although it can be a bit difficult to read in direct sunlight. The screen is protected by Gorilla glass 4, so it shouldn’t scratch easily.

The bands are the same rubber as the older model, but that’s not a bad thing as they are very comfortable to wear. If you don’t like the bands, they are easy to replace, and since the Garmin Phoenix 5X is the exact same size, there’s a lot of options for bands out there.

The size is 50mm and thickness is 14.8 mm. Weight is 75 grams.

Functions

The main screen shows  most of the available information, like steps, distance, calories, pulse, time, date etc.
There are also three different layouts to choose from:

*insert pictures here.

The following functions are available:

  • Time / date (will set automatically when the watch is paired with a phone)
  • Alarm (can be set from the app)
  • Heart rate / Pulse (24/7 monitoring)
  • Step counter
  • Calories counter
  • Distance
  • Sleep monitoring
  • Stop watch
  • Call and message reminder
  • Remote camera
  • Find phone
  • App notifications (SMS, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Viber, etc.)

Most of the functions on the watch are only readable, which means you can cycle through the different screens but can’t really do anything / interact with it. Time, steps, calories, distance, sleep monitoring.

The only functions you can interact with are;
pulse (start/stop), stopwatch(start/stop/reset), reminders (cycle through the list), find phone (start), Power (on/off)

App

After pairing with a phone, the watch will automatically set the time and date.
The app gives a nice overview of your activities, pulse and sleep. Presented with graphs and numeric values.

In the app there’s also options to set notifications, turn on/off 24 hour HR monitoring and so on.
Remote camera is also an option in the app with this watch, but it’s called “Shake Snapshot”. Just shake your hand, and it will start a 3 seconds timer before taking the picture.
Please check out the video at the bottom for more details about the app and watch.

Conclusion

I’ve been using this watch now for two weeks and been wearing it 24 hours a day.
The material quality is very goods, it’s comfortable to wear, and the screen is gorgeous! The colors are vibrant and the text is clear. Battery life is about 4-5 days with everything turned on.  Most of the functions are read only on the watch, so there’s not much you can do directly on the watch itself, but that’s expected as this is not a full smartwatch.
For only 29 USD, this is a lot of watch for the money, and a very good purchase. I recommend it.

Pros

Nice rugged design
Comfortable to wear
Material quality
Battery is good
Price

Cons

Limited functions (but that’s expected)
Can be a bit big for some
